Flag Corps and Twirling Competitions

We have the most respected and prestigious competitions in America. Typically, our competitions involve from 35 to 100 dance & auxiliaries teams. Categories for the auxiliary competition include: team flag, rifle, team flag and rifle combined, winter guard show , majorettes team twirl, and majorettes dance twirl. We also have ensemble and solo competition for color guard and majorettes.

Based on Age by 8/31 of this school year

Tiny (formerly Prek-K) 6 years and younger

Mini (formerly Elem 1-3) 7-9 years old

Youth (formerly Elem 4-6) 10-12 years old

Junior (formerly JR 7-9) 13-14 years old

Senior 15-16 (SR 9-10) 15-16 years old

Senior 17-18 ( SR 11-12) 17-18 years old

OPEN 19+- (formerly High School Grad +) 19 + years old

Rules and Guidelines

  1. Team Routines should be from 2 minutes and 30 seconds to 3 minutes in length. Ensembles should not exceed 2 minutes and 30 seconds in length.

  2. Solo routines should be limited to 2 minutes & not exceed 2 minutes and 30 seconds in length.

  3. Winter Guard Productions may be up to 10 minutes in length, which includes set up and break down.

  4. Music may be recorded on CD or iPod. Bring back up music in case technical difficulties arise.

  5. Facitilites for Team Auxiliary Performances will be on a gymnasium floor which measures 96' x 50'. Solos and ensembles may be held in a smaller gym, ballroom, or stage. However, celings will be tall enough to avoid any performance problems.

Professional judges will provide digital audio critiques for all team, ensemble, and solo performances. At Nationals, Team routines will also receive a video of their performance with audio judging critiques.

Note: Small ensembles for color guards and twirlers consist of 2-4 performers only. Any group with 5 or more participants must enter the team division.

Marching Auxiliaries promises to utilize some of the most outstanding WGI, DCI, NBTA, and USTA affiliated experts in the industry. Judges will provide three verbal critiques for all team, ensemble, and solo performances.

A panel of (3) professional judges will provide digital audio critiques on all Team, Officer Line, Ensemble, and Solo Performances at all M.A. Regional Contests. Score sheets will accompany all critique tapes.

NOTE: At all M.A. Dance Competitions, judges will be encouraged to deduct points in the appearance and choreography captions if appropriate costuming, movement, and/or music is not utilized in all routine performances
